CAGLIARI – Cagliari says goodbye to European Cup of Club Champions with a second day full of emotions. Three weapons, three new european champions. All of them are Italian. Fiamme Oro won Men’s Sabre, C.S. Carabinieri won Women’s Foil, C.S. Aeronautica Militare won Women’s Sabre.
Fiamme Oro are Men’s Sabre champions (Luca Curatoli, Luca Fioretto, Riccardo Nuccio, Pietro Torre), winning 45-33 the final versus C.S. Dinamo Bucharest (Rares Ailinca, Cordin Cozmuleanu, Iulian Teodosiu, Paul Ursachi). Bronze medal for team Ukraine (Bogdan Platonov, Oleksiy Statsenko, Yuriy Tsap, Andriy Yagodka), who won 45-32 the bout for third place versus C.S. Esercito (Dario Cavaliere, Gabriele Foschini, Emanuele Nardella, Giovanni Repetti).
C.S. Aeronautica Militare (Michela Battiston, Alessia Di Carlo, Rebecca Gargano, Claudia Rotili) won 45-38 Women’s Sabre final versus Fiamme Oro (Sofia Ciaraglia, Martina Criscio, Eloisa Passaro e Lucia Stefanello). Third place for Club de Esgrima el Oso y el Madroño (Lucia Martin-Portugues, Celia Perez-Cuenca, Maria Ventura e Fabiola Villegas Montelongo), who beat Bulgaria (Olga Hramova, Yoana Ilieva, Emma Neikova) 45-43.
On Saturday night, a Gala Dinner was held at Cagliari’s Palazzo Regio (Royal Palace), at the presence of EFC, FIS authorities and spectators. The prestigious building in the ancent neighbour of Castello was the location selected for this event. The EFC President Giorgio Scarso took the occasion to show his gratitude and appreciation to the Local Organization Committee for the efforts in organizing and hosting the debut of this new format of European Cup of Club Champions.
