The XV Edition of “A Fil di Spada” Brings the Magic of Fencing to the Heart of Rome

A Unique Event in a Unique Year

On Saturday 13 September 2025, the magic of fencing will once again shine in the Eternal City with the fifteenth edition of A Fil di Spada – La Maratona di Scherma – Memorial Enzo Musumeci Greco. The largest non-competitive fencing event in the world, it will unfold in the breathtaking setting of Piazza della Rotonda, right in front of the Pantheon — one of the most visited monuments worldwide, together with the Colosseum.

Staged during the Jubilee year, this edition takes on even greater symbolic value: a moment in which sport, culture, spirituality, and tourism converge in the very heart of Rome.

A Tradition of Fencing in the Squares of Rome

Since its creation in 2005, A Fil di Spada has transformed Rome into an open-air fencing hall, placing the discipline in dialogue with the city’s most iconic monuments. From Castel Sant’Angelo to the Campidoglio, from the Fori Imperiali to Piazza Capranica, every edition has allowed citizens and visitors to witness duels under the shadow of history.

Over the years, Olympic and World champions such as Elisa Di Francisca, Valentina Vezzali, Aldo Montano, Giovanna Trillini, Andrea Cassarà, Paolo Pizzo and many others have shared the piste with emerging athletes, wheelchair fencers, and blind and visually impaired participants. This is fencing in its purest form: a celebration of inclusivity, tradition, and passion.

Fencing for Everyone, Fencing for Friendship

The 2025 edition continues in the spirit of total inclusion that has always been at the core of the Accademia d’Armi Musumeci Greco. Thanks to the project Scherma Senza Limiti, athletes with physical and mental disabilities are offered the chance to practice fencing for free. This vision will once again come alive at the Pantheon, where Olympic and Paralympic champions will fence side by side with athletes of all ages and conditions.

The event also enjoys international flavour, welcoming delegations from around the world, including Japan, following the recent success of “La Scherma – Il Fiore all’Occhiello del Made in Italy” at Expo Osaka 2025.

Tourism, Culture and Future Inspiration

Few experiences can match the thrill of watching fencing beneath the columns of the Pantheon, surrounded by thousands of tourists and Romans alike. It is a powerful demonstration of how fencing can become a universal language of beauty and friendship, capable of connecting people beyond competitive boundaries.

Looking ahead, the vision is clear: to continue offering the chance to discover and experience fencing in the most iconic places of the world, inspiring new generations and promoting the sport to wider audiences.

A Day of Celebration

Presented by Olympic swimming legend Novella Calligaris and Maestro Renzo Musumeci Greco, A Fil di Spadapromises once again to be a great feast of fencing. From 16:00 to 20:30, the Pantheon will become the stage for duels, applause, and emotions, confirming fencing’s role not only as a sport but also as an art, a culture, and a bridge of inclusion.
