Meet Tristan Müller: The Passionate Mind Powering Fencing’s Global Streaming
When fencing fans around the world tune into a Grand Prix, a European Championship, or any major international event, few realize who stands behind the seamless transmission of these moments. Today, we are bringing into the spotlight a name that has long remained behind the scenes — Tristan Müller, the man who tirelessly ensures that fencing is seen, shared, and preserved across the globe.
Tristan’s story is not one of long family tradition in fencing, nor of a childhood dream. It all started quite by chance. After university, he was offered a unique opportunity: to travel the world covering fencing events. He accepted without hesitation, stepping into the fencing community in 2007 — and he has never looked back since. Over nearly two decades, Tristan has become an indispensable figure in the sport, travelling to almost every Grand Prix and countless other tournaments, ensuring fans everywhere have access to top-quality live streaming and replays.
Today, his company, built with a dedicated team, manages much of the fencing world’s streaming through the Youtube channel Fencing Vision. However, when it comes to major events, his own presence is vital. After the U23 European Championships in Tallinn, for instance, Tristan’s calendar will take him to Seoul, then Bogotá, and onward to Shanghai — a true globetrotter in service of fencing.
Tristan’s meticulous approach is legendary. After each competition, he personally supervises the editing and uploading of fights, organizing them with a unique coding system embedded into every video title. Thanks to this system, finding a specific bout — whether from last week or from ten years ago — becomes an easy task for athletes, coaches, and fans alike:
Each title follows a precise pattern: it begins with the year, followed by the official code of the competition (as registered with the FIE), the round of the tournament, the specific code of the bout, and the gender and weapon, both in abbreviated form. This is then completed with the event’s name, the piste where the bout took place, and finally, the surnames of the fencers involved.
Through this detailed system, Tristan has made fencing’s vast digital archive not only accessible but also highly navigable — a priceless service to the global fencing community.
Beyond his professional skills, Tristan is a true fencing enthusiast. He proudly owns the largest fencing video archive on YouTube — Fencing Vision (https://www.youtube.com/@FencingVision/featured) — with approximately 23,000 videos and almost 33,000 followers. The archive continues to grow after every competition, with around 100 new matches added each time. His dedication has helped build an invaluable library, preserving the evolution of fencing styles, athletes, and unforgettable moments over the years.
Despite all this, Tristan Müller has always preferred to stay in the background, focusing entirely on the quality of his work rather than personal recognition. Today, however, his name steps into the light. The next time you watch a fencing stream or replay, you will know the man whose quiet, passionate work allows you to experience it all — the man who has been keeping fencing alive and visible, one video at a time.
