ELECTIVE CONGRESS 01 October 2022 WARSAW
Giorgio Scarso is the new President of the European Fencing Confederation. The Extraordinary Congress for the election of the EFC presidency was held yesterday in Warsaw. Giorgio Scarso won the election with 24 votes while the other candidate, Nikolay Mateev, received 20 votes. Pascal Tesch, third candidate in the running, decided, before the start of the voting, to endorse the view held by candidate Giorgio Scarso, finding common objectives in their programs. Earlier, the member federations of the European Confederation had voted for an early end of the presidency of Stanislav Podzniakov, at the extraordinary congress in May. Following this event, in the last Ordinary Congress held in Antalya last June, the EFC had announced the new "election day" which took place yesterday afternoon, in the Polish capital, and which saw Giorgio Scarso become President of the European Fencing Confederation.
After the elections the EFC COMEX had their first meeting to appoint the new bureau. At this meeting, Etienne Van Cann was appointed the new Vice President. The composition of the Bureau was announced as: Etienne van Cann, Vice President, Jacek Slupski, Secretary General, Nuala McGarrity, Treasurer.
