The Mediterranean Cup Sabre U23 competition, part of the EFC FFE Circuit, took place this past Sunday, January 5, 2025, in Udine, Italy. Hosted at the Exhibition Center, the event showcased remarkable talent, with Italian athletes dominating both the men's and women's sabre categories.
Thrilling Performances in the U23 Individual Categories
Men’s Sabre
The men’s individual event saw a clean sweep by Italian fencers. Valerio Reale triumphed with gold, demonstrating exceptional skill throughout the competition. Antonio Tallarico secured the silver medal, while Giorgio Marciano and Massimo Sibillo shared the third spot on the podium, completing a remarkable Italian quartet.
Women’s Sabre
The women’s individual competition mirrored the success of the Italian team. Manuela Spica claimed the gold medal, followed by Carlotta Fusetti with silver. Gaia Karola Carafa and Michela Landi rounded off the podium with bronze medals, showcasing Italy's depth in talent.

Fencing Meets Sustainability in Udine
In addition to the thrilling competitions, this event marked a significant step towards incorporating sustainability into fencing. The Local Organizing Committee (COL) has committed to achieving climate neutrality for the Junior World Cup in Udine, setting a new benchmark for environmental responsibility in the sport.
For the first time, the carbon footprint of the event was measured, and emissions were offset in compliance with PAS 2060 guidelines. This initiative, executed in collaboration with Spinlife, a Padua University spin-off, and CSQA Certifications, reflects the fencing community's dedication to a sustainable future.
