The Hungarian Team – Mate Csabai, Gergely Kovacs, Viktor Kulscar, Soma Somody – entered the competition ranked 5th. After a BYE in the round of 32, they defeated Czech Republic 45-26 and Romania 45-34 to reach the semi-finals. They had a tough bout against 1st-seeded Israel but came out on top 45-31 to advance to the final.
From the other side came team Italy – Nicoló del Contrasto, Matteo Galassi, Simone Mencarelli and Marco Paganelli – who after their BYE in the round of 32 defeated Germany 45-33 and Great Britain 45-31 to reach the semi-finals. There they comfortably beat France 40-24 to advance to the grand final.
Italy took an initial 20-16 lead after 4 bouts, but in the 5th round Mate Csabai won 7-1 to claim a Hungarian lead, and never let go. Ultimately, they secured the title 45-32. In the bronze match, team France – Bastien Archambeaud, Mael Denaux, Lino Heurlin Vazquez and Junes Lechevalier Boissel – had a long-fought battle against team Israel, but ultimately won 45-41 to take the bronze medal.
