The European Fencing Confederation is pleased to announce details of the upcoming European Olympic Qualification Tournament to be held in Madrid, 24-25 April. The event will take place at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Marqués de Samaranch and is hosted by The Royal Spanish Fencing Federation and The Fencing Federation of Madrid.
Due to the current circumstances the organisers have arranged for the event to take place in a protective “bubble”. A number of measures have been put in place to reduce the risk of a Covid-19 outbreak including, but not limited to, all participants being PCR tested at the official hotel on arrival, single room occupancy and single delegation transportation between the hotel and venue. The EFC is grateful to the FIE for providing subsidies to cover the additional cost associated with these measures.
Individual events in women’s epee, men’s foil and men’s sabre will take place, through to conclusion on Saturday 24 April with the women’s foil, women’s sabre and men’s epee events being held on Sunday 25 April. Entries are limited to one athlete per NOC per discipline in accordance with the qualification rules for fencing at the Olympic Games.
The tournament represents the final opportunity for European fencers to qualify for the Olympic Games and only the winners of each event will book their places for Tokyo.
