Sam Cheris, a remarkable member of the global fencing family, including our European Fencing Confederation, we are deeply saddened by his passing.
Sam dedicated a significant part of his life to the world of fencing, both in the United States and across the globe. His contributions to fencing were truly immeasurable, with achievements that would fill many pages.
Sam Cheris served as the President of the Legal Commission within the FIE for many years, establishing himself as a cornerstone of this vital body. His deep legal knowledge and wise counsel echoed through the halls of FIE Congresses, where his invaluable advice and insights were eagerly sought after.
Moreover, Sam was known for his generous spirit, willingly sharing his expertise. His commitment to the sport of fencing shone brightly through his active and influential roles within these organizations.
In the United States, Sam played a vital role in the fencing community, holding numerous positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Board Member, and committee member, among others. He became an icon in our beloved sport, leaving a lasting legacy.
The EFC and the sport of fencing overall have lost a great professional, one of its dearest members and a great friend who was appreciated, respected, and admired by all.
