The French Women’s Foil team claimed the first team European title of the 2022 Championships in Tallinn today.

Eva Lacheray, Jade Marechal, Alice Recher and Marion Rousseau lined up for the top seeded French team and had a bye through the quarterfinals. They beat Romania in the semis 45-20 for their place in the final.

The other half of the draw saw Germany edge Poland 39-38 to give themselves a shot at the gold medal. Poland (Aleksandra Jeglinska, Renata Tomczak, Dominika Wasilczuk and Karolina Zurawska) went on to beat Romania 41-37 in the bronze medal play-off.

Germany started the gold medal match with Aliya Dhuique-Hein, Anne Lirsch and Carlotta Morandi with Pia Ueltgesforth in reserve whilst France began with Rousseau on the bench. France led from the start going 14-9 up after three legs extending that to 29-19 with three bouts to go. There was no stopping them as they claimed the European Crown, winning 45-31.
