U23 WOMEN’S SABRE REPORT
Germany’s Larissa Eifler took the last of the individual titles in Tallinn today, claiming the U23 Women’s Sabre European crown in style.
She battled her way through a field of fifty, winning all of her first-round fights and ranking fourth for the elimination stages. A bye preceded victories over Di Carlo (ITA) 15-13, teammate Funke 15-10 and Suzanne (FRA) 15-7 to ensure a place on the podium. Eifler battled her way through to the final though, beating Clapier (FRA) 15-12.
In the other half of the draw Luca Szucs (HUN) beat Yoana Ilieva(BUL) 15-9 to complete the gold medal line-up.
Demonstrating a varied repertoire of first defence and then attacking actions, Eifler pulled away to lead 8-4 at the break. Mainly on the attack, Eifler accomplished her task in the second period, claiming the European title with a 15-9 win.
