Team Italy – Giulia Amore, Matilde Calvanese, Carlotta Ferrari and Aurora Grandis – entered the competition as the 1st seed and fenced convincingly all day to secure the gold medal in the Women’s Foil competition, adding to their individual gold. After a BYE in the round of 16, Italy beat Spain 45-17 and then Poland 45-39 to reach the final.
Their opponents, 11th-seeded Team Israel – Lior Druck, May Kagan Tyagunov, Lihi Peer Koren, Kili Kuritzky – displayed a strong performance throughout the day. Initially beating Ukraine 45-35 in the round of 16, they grabbed two solid wins against 3rd-seeded Romania 45-30 and 2nd-seeded Great Britain to reach the grand final.
The final was a close battle, but throughout the match Italy was always slightly ahead. Despite a 10-6 performance by Israeli Lior Druck in the final bout, Italy won the final 45-38. In the bronze match, Poland – Malwina Kolodziejczyk, Antonia Lachman, Amelia Olszewska and Karolina Zurawska – came out on top after a final deciding hit by Zurawska to beat Great Brittain 28-27.
