The prestigious European Fencing Championships in Naples concluded in a spectacular fashion on the final day of individual competitions, showcasing exemplary talents in the sport. Junior Women's Épée

 

In the Junior Women's Épée category, the Ukrainian fencer Anna Maksymenko emerged victorious, adding another gold to her illustrious collection. Maksymenko, who had already secured wins in the cadet individual and team events earlier in the competition, showcased her dominance yet again. Her teammate Emily Conrad secured the silver, while Eleonora Orso from Italy and Sofija Prosina from Latvia shared the bronze.

 

In an exclusive interview with the triumphant Anna Maksymenko, she expressed her initial fatigue from competing in multiple events but highlighted her joy at claiming the top spot. Maksymenko faced her toughest challenge in the final against her teammate, demonstrating resilience, trust in her process, and a touch of fortune that propelled her to victory.

 

In an exclusive post-match interview, Maksymenko reflected on her remarkable journey through the championships. "In the beginning of the junior championships, I was very tired because I already fenced individually and in the team in cadets," she revealed. Despite the grueling schedule, Maksymenko showcased unwavering determination and perseverance throughout the competition. "I didn’t know I was going to be 1st today, but I am very happy. I hope in the teams it will go well too." The final duel against her teammate proved to be the toughest challenge of the day for Maksymenko. However, with resilience and skill, she surpassed this final obstacle to claim the top spot on the podium. "Trust the process and  fortune were my strength today," Maksymenko acknowledged, highlighting the mental fortitude and belief in her abilities that guided her to success.

 

As Maksymenko sets her sights on the upcoming team competitions, scheduled for 29th February, anticipation runs high for another stellar performance from the Ukrainian fencing prodigy.

Junior Men's Foil

 

The competition in the Junior Men's Foil event was equally intense, with Matteo Iacomoni from Italy emerging as the gold medallist after a stellar performance. Eliot Chagnon from France took the silver, while Oscar Geudvert from Belgium and Alexey Ivanov of AIN (affiliated independent nation) shared the bronze.

 

In his post-match interview, Matteo Iacomoni shared his path to victory, mentioning his positive start and later encountering fatigue. He acknowledged his team's assistance in overcoming physical challenges, stating, "I felt fantastic from the start today, winning all my matches in the initial rounds. As the final approached, I felt some fatigue in my legs, but with the help of the physiotherapist, I was able to recover, perform well, and secure the win."

 

Reflecting on the challenges he faced during the competition, Iacomoni acknowledged overcoming moments of exhaustion in the semifinals. However, his determination and focus propelled him to victory: "The biggest obstacle I overcame today was the fatigue in the semifinal, but I maintained a strong mental attitude and managed to clinch the win despite the comeback attempt."

 

Iacomoni attributed his success to a blend of mental strength, heart, composure, and tenacity: "My special strength today was my mindset. I put a lot of focus, heart, but also calmness and determination into my performance today."

Junior Men's Sabre

Following closely behind, Edoardo Cantini of Italy secured the second spot on the podium, showcasing his prowess and technique in the intense bouts.
