Italy, who finished in 4th place in Novi Sad 2022, was out for gold in Tallinn. The team - Mattia de Cristofaro, Elia Pasin, Fernando Scalora, Jacopo Poggio - was ranked first in the competition and showed us why. Two comfortable wins over Greece 45-24 and Ukraine 45-25 earned the Italians a spot in the semi-final where they beat Israel 45-39 to advance to the grand final.
From the lower side of the bracket came 3rd-seeded Great Britain, consisting of David Sosnov, Callum Penman, Aarav Chaudhari and Mikhel Archer. The British team beat Turkey 45-34, Poland 45-38 and 2nd-seed Hungary 45-31 to earn a chance at a gold medal.
In the final Italy showed why they were favourites for the day. Fernando Scalora took an impressive 9-2 win in the second bout and Italy never let go after that. The Italian lead never went below 7 points and in the end they secured Italy’s fourth gold after a solid win 45-36.
The team from Israel - Ran Traitel Crystal, Eitan Lemberger, Mathew Amrani Harel and Eyvatar Koren - earned the bronze after a hard fought battle against Hungary in the match for third place.
