On 19 November 2022, The President of the European Fencing Confederation, Giorgio Scarso, attended the 55° Trofeo Bertinetti in Vercelli, a prestigious fencing tournament. The Trofeo Bertinetti, is one of the most known and historical tournaments on invitation, organised by the fencing club Pro Vercelli for over a half of century, that has seen the most important epee fencers. The competition, which for the second time was a female team international epee event, this year hosted the Swiss team, the Hungarian team, the Romanian team, and the Italian team. For the first time, Romania won the important event, beating Italy in the final by 45-31. The competition took place between two locations: the elimination part in the sports hall of Vercelli and the final in the municipal theatre, where a wide range of spectators, political, administrative and sports authorities were present. The President, Giorgio Scarso, on behalf of the EFC, invited the local leaders to include the historical tournament in the activities of the Confederation for the next season.
The initiative is a witness to the richness of events that have their roots in Europe and are a source of pride for the world of fencing and inspiration to involve future generations.
