Thrilling Second Day at the U23 European Championships in Antalya

The second day of the U23 European Fencing Championships in Antalya delivered a series of exhilarating matches, with the spotlight on Men’s and Women’s Epee and Women’s Sabre events. The competition, running from June 1st to June 4th, continues to showcase Europe's finest young fencers, drawing significant attention and excitement.

Men’s Epee

The Men’s Epee competition featured 89 participants from 28 countries, all vying for the top honors. Filippo Armaleo from Italy claimed the gold with a remarkable display of skill and strategy. Gergely Kovacs from Hungary secured the silver, showcasing his tenacity throughout the matches. The bronze medals were awarded to Miguel Frazao from Portugal and Enrico Piatti from Italy, both demonstrating exceptional prowess on the piste.

Women’s Epee

In the Women’s Epee category, 67 fencers from 21 countries competed fiercely. Gaia Caforio from Italy emerged victorious, capturing the gold with her exceptional performance. Gloria Klughardt from Poland took the silver, proving her mettle in the intense bouts. Emma Sont from Romania and Oceane Francillonne from France both earned bronze medals, highlighting their remarkable fencing abilities.

Women’s Sabre

The Women’s Sabre event saw 47 participants from 15 countries deliver thrilling duels. Jolien Corteyn from Belgium clinched the gold medal with an impressive series of matches. Italian fencer Benedetta Fusetti took home the silver, narrowly missing the top spot. Faustine Clapier from France and Michela Landi of Italy both secured bronze medals, demonstrating their exceptional talent and determination.

Notably, Yoana Ilieva from Bulgaria, who recently secured her ticket to the Paris Olympics at the Luxembourg Zonal Qualification competition, finished in fifth place. She faced a tough quarterfinal against Benedetta Fusetti, ending with a score of 15:12. Nisanur Erbil from Turkey, who received a Wild Card for the Paris Olympics, finished in sixth place after a challenging match against Faustine Clapier, also concluding with a score of 15:12.
