EFC COMEX Meeting in Basel

17 June 2024

Today, in the picturesque setting of Basel, the Executive Committee (COMEX) of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) convened an important meeting. This gathering took place just two days before the start of the European Senior Championships, scheduled from June 17 to 23, 2024. The key points discussed during the meeting were as follows.

One of the central topics was a detailed analysis of financial issues. The COMEX meticulously reviewed the current budget, assessed available resources, and planned strategies to ensure sustainable and transparent financial management.

A moment of great enthusiasm was dedicated to the official announcement of the European Youth Fencing Festival. This event, scheduled to be held in Budapest from June 28 to 30, 2024, will provide a significant opportunity for young European fencers to compete and grow in a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

The COMEX also developed a series of proposed amendments to the Statutes, which will be presented at the upcoming congress. These changes aim to enhance the governance and operational efficiency of the confederation, adapting it to the evolving needs of the fencing community.

A new solidarity project was launched with a revised organizational system designed to involve smaller federations more actively. This project, known as the “Solidarity Program - New Edition,” facilitates collaboration between established federations, such as the French, Italian, Hungarian, and British, and emerging federations, ensuring a fair distribution of expenses and resources.

Additionally, the COMEX introduced the "Fencing for Everyone" project, which includes a series of European competitions for Under 23 with separate awards for Under 20  and Under 17 categories. This initiative aims to make fencing more accessible and inclusive, offering more competitive opportunities for young athletes.

The competition calendar for the 2024-2025 season was also drawn up and approved. This calendar will be crucial for scheduling competitive activities and ensuring athletes' adequate preparation for international events.

Today's COMEX meeting marked an important step for the future of European fencing, with initiatives aimed at promoting growth, inclusivity, and co-operation among various federations. The European Fencing Confederation continues to work diligently to support the development of fencing across Europe, providing opportunities and resources for all its members.
