The Hungarians claim a fourth title at the Cadet European Championshipsafter a solid performance in the men’s epee team event.
The Hungarian team - Matyas Kiraly, Bence Balazs, Domonkos Pelle and Mark Horvath - skipped the round of 32 as a result of their second seed. In the round of 16 they comfortably beat hometown favourites Estonia 45-27, Israel 45-38 in the quarterfinal and ultimately Poland 45-34 to advance to the grand final.
Reigning champions and first-ranked Italy - Leonardo Cortini, Datio Benetti, Ettore Leporati and Cristiano Sena - also had a BYE through the round of 32 and defeated Czech Republic 45-24 in their first match of the day. They then went on to beat France 45-34 in the quarterfinal, and advanced to the final after 45-40 win over the team from Great Britain.
The final was a repeat of the 2022 final in which Italy came out victorious. This time however, Hungary took an early lead in the final, wielding a commanding 30-18 lead entering the 7th bout. Ettore Leporati brought Italy closer after an impressive 6-0 win in the 7th leg, but it wasn’t enough as the strong Hungarians take the title 45-32 to claim Hungary’s fourth gold medal of the championships
The battle for bronze saw the British team - Sameer Sunder Rajan, Cador Beatyman, Cheney Zhu, Tristan Lumineau - come out victorious to secure the nation’s first medal of the championships.
