Men´s foil cadets for the first time in esslingen (ger)

ESSLINGEN - The fencing section of SV 1845 Esslingen organised the season's first ranking tournament in the "Cadet Circuit" for U17 fencers in men’s foil for the European Fencing Confederation EFC on the weekend 30./31. October 2021. In the sports hall in Esslingen, 150 fencers from 14 nations met to fence for important ranking points for the European and national ranking lists under strict Corona regulations. German fencer Ruben Lindner (FC Tauberbischofsheim) won the individual competition, team Poland 1 (Jan Nowak, Tomasz Gorczyca, Filip Winkhof, Piotr Ginda) was successful in the team competition.

On Saturday, the individual competition was on the agenda. After a long day of competition, Lindner from Germany and Michael Dijkstra from the Netherlands faced each other in the final. In an exciting final match, Lindner won 15:10 and was quite happy about his success in this tournament and winning the trophy. The bronze medals went to Tan Sezer (Turkey) and Adrian Helmy-Cocoynacq (France).

In the team competitions, 25 national teams competed on Sunday. In the end, the Polish teams dominated the event: in the final match, Poland 1 beat Poland 3 with 43:39. The bronze medal went to the team from Israel, who beat Poland 2 45:30 in the small final.

"After such a long time it was nice to host an international tournament in Esslingen again," summarized Udo Ziegler, organiser of the Esslingen fencing tournament, and looked back on a successful tournament weekend. "We hope that next year, it will be easier to organise, with fewer restrictions and spectators again."
