FRANCE SAVOUR MEN’S TEAM EPEE EUROPEAN CROWN

U23 MEN’S TEAM EPEE REPORT

Today, France claimed the Men’s Team Epee European titles at the 2022 Championships in Tallinn today.

Their lineup of Gaetan Billa, Kendrick Jean Joseph, Lilian Nguefack and Arthur Philippe were top seeds for the knockout competition meaning a bye through the round of 16. They went on to beat Hungary 45-35 and Estonia 45-32 to make the final.

In the other half of the draw Ukraine defeated Austria 45-35  for their place in the gold medal. Estonia (Ilian Bobrov, Markus Salm, Kasper Tafenau and Erik Salm) claimed bronze beating Austria 45-27.

Ukraine started the gold medal match with Andriy Derkach, Nikita Koshman and Vitaliy Svystil and Maria Venture with Andriy Opanasenko in reserve whilst France began with Jean Joseph on the bench and led 15-9 after three legs. The French increased their lead to 26-17 in the middle of the match and claimed the title with a 45-33 victory.
