CADET MEN’S SABRE REPORT
Germany’s Colin Heathcock claimed the Cadet Men’s Sabre European Championship title in Serbia adding to the Junior title he won a few days ago.
Amongst a field of 69 Heathcock won all of his first round matches and ranked first for the knockout stages. A bye through the incomplete round of 64 was followed by victories over teammate Oskar Kusak (POL) 15-4, Lumir Kral (CZE) 15-3 and Kornel Pech (HUN) 15-2 to make the semi-finals. He faced Frigyes Godo (HUN) to make the gold medal match and another dominant display saw him progress 15-6.
The other half of the draw saw number two seed Lucas Guilley (FRA) face Tolga Aslan (TUR) in the semi-final. A much closer encounter saw Guilley progress 15-11.
Heathcock continued with his dominant performance in this event and took the final 15-9. He was the form fencer on the day, never taken into double points throughout.
