Strengthening Interactions Between European Confederations

08 February 2024

The recent Mediterranean Championship has showcased the dominance of European fencers on the international stage. Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Turkey have won the gold medal in their respective specialties. This significant achievement has not only highlighted the talent and skill of the young European athletes but also emphasized the strength of European fencing.

During the event, President of EFC Giorgio Scarso, who was present at the championship, had the opportunity to engage in discussions with various national federation officials and the President of the Mediterranean Confederation. These discussions revolved around the management and coordination of activities within the Mediterranean Confederation.

One of the primary concerns raised by the officials was to ensure that the activities reserved for young athletes do not overlap with national and European Confederation events. To address this, the officials agreed to meet soon and collaborate on coordinating schedules and avoiding any conflicts. Such an approach will ensure that young athletes can participate in both national and international events without any hindrances.

Furthermore, to promote stronger interaction and cooperation among the different zonal confederations operating within the European Confederation, a representative from the Northern European Union will soon join the working group. This addition aims to create favorable conditions for increased collaboration between the Mediterranean, Northern European, and Balkan confederations.

The efforts to forge stronger ties between these confederations will provide a platform for sharing best practices, exchanging knowledge, and facilitating the development of fencing talent across Europe. By fostering open communication and cooperation, this initiative will undoubtedly contribute to the continuous growth and success of European fencing as a whole.

In the picture, President Scarso is seen congratulating the Portuguese fencer for his victory in the U15 sabre competition. This moment of recognition symbolizes the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship prevalent at the Mediterranean Championship, as fencers from various European countries came together to celebrate success and embrace the unifying power of the sport.

As the European Fencing Confederation continues to make strides in promoting the sport's growth and excellence, events like the Mediterranean Championship stand as shining examples of European fencers' determination and prowess. With the increasing collaboration among the confederations and the dedication of young athletes, the future of European fencing looks incredibly promising.
