Antalya, June 3, 2024 – The third day of the U23 European Championships showcased exceptional talent and thrilling bouts in team competitions for men’s and women’s foil and men’s sabre. The vibrant atmosphere was matched by the high-calibre fencing on display, with Italy emerging as the dominant force of the day.
Men’s Foil
The men’s foil event saw 12 teams competing fiercely. Italy clinched the gold, continuing their strong performance in the championships. The team, composed of Alessio Di Tommaso, Giulio Lombardi, Damiano Di Veroli, and Giuseppe Franzoni, demonstrated excellent teamwork and skill throughout the competition.
France secured the silver medal with Valerian Castanie, Armand Spichiger, Eliot Chagnon, and Paul Antoine De Badts showcasing their prowess and determination. Hungary, represented by Andor Istvan Mihalyi, Gergely Toth, Gergo Szemes, and Albert Bagdany, took home the bronze after a series of impressive matches.
Women’s Foil
In the women’s foil, 10 teams vied for the top spot. Italy once again stood atop the podium with Anna Cristino, Aurora Grandis, Giulia Amore, and Matilde Calvanese delivering outstanding performances.
Ukraine's team, featuring Kateryna Budenko, Dariia Myroniuk, Olga Sopit, and Alina Poloziuk, claimed the silver medal after a hard-fought series of bouts. Hungary, with Eszter Wolf, Jazmin Papp, Petra Polonyi, and Anna Kollar, earned the bronze, marking another successful day for Hungarian fencing.
Men’s Sabre
The men’s sabre competition included 13 teams, with Italy continuing their gold medal streak. The team of Mattia Rea, Lorenzo Ottaviani, Lupo Veccia Scavalli, and Marco Mastrullo showcased their agility and tactical brilliance to secure the victory.
Romania’s team, consisting of Rares Ailinca, Alexandru Zmau, Radu Nitu, and Vlad Covaliu, fought valiantly to earn the silver medal. Hungary, represented by Gergo Horvath, Krisztian Rabb, Bertalan Toth, and Benedek Dallos, completed the podium with the bronze.
