On 4th November 2022, in Rome, a cordial and productive meeting was held between the President of the European Fencing Confederation, Giorgio Scarso and the President of the European Olympic Committee, Spyros Capralos, and the Secretary General, Raffaele Pagnozzi, .
During the meeting many issues related to the reality of European fencing were identified and addressed.
In particular, attention has been focused on the realities of countries where fencing is not yet present and possible forms of intervention in favour of the promotion of the discipline have been examined ; steps have been identified to make fencing part of the European Youth Games programme.
In addition, it was agreed that an important Memorandum between the European Olympic Committee and the European Fencing Confederation in view of the 2023 European Games would be signed at the June 2023 Congress of the EFC in Krakow,.
The meeting was an opportunity to take note of the maximum availability, collaboration and openness by President Capralos and Secretary Pagnozzi, towards the various initiatives of the European Fencing Confederation.
President Scarso took the opportunity to invite President Spyros Capralos to one of the most prestigious World Cup events next to take place in Europe, getting an enthusiastic response..

Compte-rendu de l’entretien entre le Président de la Confédération Européenne d’Escrime, Monsieur Giorgio Scarso et le Président des Comités Olympiques Européens, Monsieur Spyros Capralos.
Le 4 novembre 2022, à Rome, s’est tenue une rencontre très cordiale et productive entre le Président de la Confédération d’Escrime, Monsieur Giorgio Scarso, le Président, Monsieur Spyros Capralos et le Secrétaire Général, Monsieur Raffaele Pagnozzi, des Comités Olympiques Européens.
Durant l’encontre des nombreux thèmes relatifs à la réalité de l’escrime européenne ont été affrontés.
En particulier l’attention a été mise sur les pays où l’escrime n’est pas pratiquée et une série de mesures pour favoriser la promotion de cette discipline sportive ont été envisagées ; le second objectif est de rendre l’escrime partie intégrante du programme du Festival Olympique de la Jeunesse Européenne, et les différentes étapes pour y parvenir ont été établies.
Il a été décidé qu’à l’occasion de la Conférence de la Confédération Européenne d’Escrime qui se tiendra à Cracovie, en vue des Jeux Européens 2023, sera signé un important Mémorandum entre les Comités Olympiques Européens et la Confédération Européenne d’Escrime.
La réunion a confirmé l’intérêt et la disponibilité à collaborer de la part du Président Capralos et du Secrétaire Pagnozzi, aux diverses initiatives qui seront réalisées par la Confédération Européenne d’Escrime. Le Président Giorgio Scarso a invité le Président Spyros Capralos à l’un des plus prestigieux évènements sportifs de l’escrime, la prochaine Coupe du Monde qui se déroulera en Europe, obtenant une immédiate et enthousiaste adhésion.
Le Président Giorgio Scarso, au nom de l’escrime européenne, a tenu à renouveler l’attention sur lien très important et fort qui la lie au mouvement olympique européen.
