SOLIDARITY PROGRAMME: A SABRE COACHING COURSE TOOK PLACE IN BUDAPEST

02 June 2023

"Earlier this week, as a part of the EFC’s Solidarity Program, a sabre coaching course - organized jointly by the European and Hungarian federations - took place in the hall of Ludovika Fencing Club. Seven coaches arrived from Europe to Budapest and - together with some interested Hungarian colleagues - had the opportunity to participate in the following program:

First day morning, Ákos Patócs (Head Coach of TFSE Fencing Club) illustrated the structure of the tactical multiple choice lesson in two different age groups with the help of his own youth athletes. In the afternoon, Zsolt Nemcsik, (Head of Fencing Coach Education at the University of Physical Education in Budapest) spoke about and presented in practice the preparatory footwork elements used in order to obtain the priority in the middle of the piste, which are becoming increasingly important in modern sabre fencing. He also touched on and illustrated the error correction procedures applicable in fencing education, primarily in an individual lesson.

On the second day, Giovanni Sirovich, (former Head Coach of the Italian Sabre Team) presented practical examples of the teaching methods of Italian sabre fencing, starting from beginner fencers to the highest level athletes.

Third day, in the morning, Sándor Neuhold, (Head Coach of the Hungarian Junior Men's Sabre Team) talked about his own teaching methods based on his experiences in the Far East, then, with the help of his student, he introduced an individual lesson, preparing for a fencing competition in U15 category.

The course ended in the afternoon with a club visit, during which the participants could gain insight into the everyday life of Vasas SC, one of the most successful Hungarian fencing clubs."
