Hungary’s Greta Gachalyi took the Women’s Epee Cadet European title on the seventh day of the Championships in Novi Sad.

Lining up in a field of 97, Gachalyi dropped one of her five first round fights and ranked 21st for the knockout stages. Following a bye she beat Emily Erber (AUT) 15-7, Allegra Cristofoletto (ITA) 15-9, Elenora Orso (ITA) 15-8 and Berra Sonyuksek (TUR) 9-8 to make the semi-finals. She went on to make the final by beating Sofija Prosina (LAT) 15-9.

In the other half of the draw Alexandra Kravets (ISR) made it through to the semi-finals where she beat Emili Conrad (UKR) 15-11.

The gold medal match began with Gachalyi being more mobile and creating scoring opportunities for herself. She opened up a 10-6 by the first break. At the start of the second Kravets began to explore more and closed the gap to 12-13 down only Gachalyi to open the distance. The Hungarian went on to secure the European title with a 15-112 victory.
